 The crewmen of the CLAXTON, while serving aboard her, earned numerous awards and battle stars.
Actual ones earned depends upon dates of service aboard. Below is a listing of  actions and operations
that resulted in battle stars or awards:

 AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, For operations in The Caribbean and off the US Atlantic Coast
in 1943. For operations off the US Pacific Coast in 1944.

 EUROPEAN AFRICA AND MIDDLE EAST CAMPAIGN MEDAL,  For operations in
N African waters in 1943.

 ASIATIC AND PACIFIC CAMPAIGN MEDAL, For operations in The Pacific in 1943, 1944  and
1945.  Bronze stars may be attached for the following actions:

 1 Star/  TREASURY-BOUGAINVILLE OPERATION: Bombardment of Buka-Bonin,
Oct, 31- Nov 2 1943, Bombardment of Shortland Is. Area   Nov. 1, 1943, Battle of Empress Augusta
Bay Nov 1, 1943, Occupation and defence of Cape Torokina Nov 10-16,1943, Battle of Cape St.
George Nov 24-25 1943, Supporting Air Actions Dec 3-4, 1943.

 

1 Star/  CONSOLIDATION OF SOLOMON ISLANDS:  Dec 13-16, Dec 23-24 1943
and Feb 4, 1944.

 1 Star WESTERN CAROLINE ISLANDS OPERATION: Capture and occupation of
Southern Palau Islands Sept 6-14 1944.

 1 Star/  LEYTE OPERATION:  Leyte Island, Phillipines, Landings, Oct 10-Nov 29, 1944.

 1 Star/  LUZON OPERATION:  Lingayen Gulf, Landing and resupply, Jan 9-18, 1945.

 1 Star/  MANILA BAY-BICOL OPERATIONS:  Nasugbu, Jan 31-Feb 4, 1945,
Mariveles-Corregidor, Feb 14-28, 1945.

 1 Star/  CONSOLIDATION  OF SOUTHERN PHILLIPINES: Visayan Island Landing,
Mar 18-21, Mar 26-Apr 1, 1945, Mindanao Island Landings Apr 17-23, May 3, 1945.

 1 Star/ OKINAWA GUNTO OPERATION: Assault and occupation of Okinawa Gunto,
May 16-June; 30, 1945.

 

PRESIDENTIAL UNIT CITATION:  As a unit of Destroyer Squadron 23: For operations
In the Solomon Islands Nov 1 1943 -Feb 23, 1944. Crewmen serving aboard at that time may
wear the ribbon with one bronze star attached.

 NAVY OCCUPATION SERVICE MEDAL (ASIA): Sept 2-11, 1945.

 WORLD WAR II VICTORY MEDAL:   For service during WW II.

 COMBAT ACTION RIBBON: Crew members who served aboard during any of the CLAXTON’S
combat actions are now entitled to wear the COMBAT ACTION RIBBON. The awarding of this
ribbon has just recently been retroactively authorized for combat actions in WW II.

 PHILLIPINE REPUBLIC LIBERATION MEDAL:  With 2 stars. For operations in liberating the
Phillipines. (Awarded by The Phillipine Republic)

 PHILLIPINE REPUBLIC PRESIDENTIAL UNIT CITATION : For numerous operations in the
Phillipines Oct 10, 1944 to May 3, 1945. (Awarded by The Phillipine Republic)
