Entering Drydock in Manus for repair of Kamikaze damage. Dec. 1944.
The Cruiser Canberra is already docked in foreground.

A view of the Kamikaze damage. Most of the damaged plates have
already been cut away. Decmber 1944.

Preparing to leave the drydock in Manus. CLAXTON on the left and
KILLEN DD593 on the right. She also had hull damage. The heavy cruiser
CANBERRA, in the center, had taken a torpedo hit between the firerooms
in an air action off Formosa in October 1944. This was Christmas day 1944.

The Officers shown in this picture are,
from left to right:
Ltcmdr. Roberts (XO), Lt. Pepper, Lt. Macaye, Cmdr. Hubbard (Capt.),
and Lt. Hogan. The date of this picture is unknown.

of the CLAXTON in December 1944. The three chiefs in the
background (l-r) are Monfort, Husseman, and Clyce.
Cmdr. Firth relieved Cmdr. Hubbard.

December 15, 1959, The Claxton as shown on
loan to the West German
Navy as "Zerstoerer 4". Note the postwar tripod mast. The D178 on the
side is her NATO number.
She was later transferred to the Greek Navy in the 1980's.

View of the main battery gun director showing
action hash marks. The row of marks
on the left indicates Jap aircraft shot down. The middle row shows the number of
shore bombardments and the right hand row shows major surface engagements.
Shooting up Jap barges didn't rate a hash mark. Thanks to our old shipmate
Bob Horvath for this photo.

While drydocked at Manus in December 1944, the Ship had a
Christmas party ashore at the recreation area. We had beer and
barbecue. Husseman CQM at far left.
